Another explosion? Gateway Bus catches fire, Police speaks out

A Gateway Bus company bus has this afternoon gone up in flames, in a suspected explosion.

ASP Nampiima Faridah, the PRO Traffic Directorate says the incident happened at Kampiringisa check point, Kammengo Sub County along the Kampala-Masaka highway.

“A Gateway Company Bus registration number UAU 926U from Kampala heading to Kabale has caught fire and is still burning. The cause of fire outbreak is not yet established,” says Nampiima.

She reveals that all the 37 passengers have come out alive but their properties were razed in the fire.

“No fire engine yet at the scene. The situation is out of hand for now. There is traffic jam along the road. Police officers were at the scene but with little help. Road users heading to Masaka are advised to plan accordingly,” she says.

The incident comes two weeks after a suspected bomb exploded on Swift Bus killing one person.
