COVID-19: “A number of returning Ugandans from Dubai Expo are testing positive,” says Dr Atwine

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Dr. Diana Atwine has revealed that a number of returning Ugandans from Dubai Expo are testing positive on arrival.

Atwine says traveling remains one of the risky ventures that exposes people to COVID-19.

Uganda’s internal transmission of COVID-19 has gradually reduced and the country is currently focusing on mass vaccination.

To date, Uganda has received 5,690,363 doses of COVID-19 vaccines comprising of; AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson and Johnson.

Of these, 2,282,414 doses have been administered while 2,080,594 are currently being distributed countrywide. Of the administered doses, 1,704,279 have received their 1st dose and 578,135 got their 2nd dose.

Uganda was among the 47 countries that the UK government removed from the red list starting October 11. This means Ugandans are going to find it easier to travel to the UK as they will no longer be required to enter hotel quarantine.
