Rwanda’s Amavubi play host to Uganda at Nyamirambo Stadium, Kigali in their third match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers today, October 7. The game will kick off at 7 pm.
Uganda Cranes have only managed two goalless draws in their opening games of Group E. A draw against Kenya’s Harambee Stars at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi and then a 0-0 draw against Mali at St Mary’s Kitende.
Meanwhile, Rwanda started their campaign with a 1-0 defeat away to Mali in Morocco before they battled from behind to claim a 1-1 draw against Kenya in Kigali.
Cranes coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic is targeting three points from today’s game.
“I believe that we have what it takes to get the performance and result,” said Micho.
Similarly, captain Khalid Aucho revealed that the players are strong and ready to make Uganda proud.
“We have played many derbies and won. We are not under any pressure but we want to win the game.
The young players in the team are like babies taking their first steps to walk. They want to prove a point and are willing to deliver for the Uganda Cranes and make the fans happy,” said Aucho.
In the last six matches between the two East African rival nations, Rwanda has only managed one win, with Uganda winning three times and the other two ending in draws.
Their last meeting was during the 2017 African Nations Championship where Rwanda held Uganda to a 0-0 draw.
As it stands, Uganda is third in Group E with two points from two matches, Rwanda is rock bottom with one point.
