Kazinda sentenced to 40 years in prison, ordered to pay gov’t Shs19b

Justice Margaret Tubulya has today 24th September 24 sentenced Godfrey Kazinda, the former Office of the Prime Minister Principal Accountant to 40 years imprisonment.

Kazinda was arrested in 2012 and arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court in Kololo, Kampala where he was charged with abuse of office, fraudulent false accounting, and one count of causing financial loss.

He was also charged with 26 counts of forgery and conspiracy to commit a felony.

In November 2020, the court found him guilty of illicit enrichment and sentenced him to 15 years in jail. The judge consequently directed that Kazinda’s house and land at Kyadondo, Mengo West, and all cars including BMW, Mercedes Benz, ML class, Dodge be confiscated by the state.

Kazinda appealed against the conviction and the Constitutional court freed him as sentences were set aside.

However, the State re-appealed and won today as Kazinda has been convicted for illicit enrichment.

The Judge has further ordered the Accused to compensate the government Shs19.2 billion.
