Besigye: Museveni’s greatest tool is fear mongering; his research paper at University was about violence in politics

Following the recent spate of killings by machete-wielding thugs in the Greater Masaka area, Opposition strong figure, Dr. Kizza Besigye has said that it’s nothing new adding that a number of factors are responsible for levels and types of insecurity that the country is experiencing today.

Besigye who was appearing on NBS Morning Breeze stated that Mr. Museveni who has been in charge of this country for more than 35 years, formed his political consciousness around violence adding that even his (Museveni) thesis at the university was about violence in politics.

“In Uganda, Museveni has continued to create that narrative of us and them, and the use of violence. In Luweero, it was the people of Uganda against “those enemies.” Even after taking power, Mr. Museveni’s greatest tool is fear mongering,” said Besigye.

He added that Government needs to be investigated.

“We need to investigate. Government needs to be investigated. This is why we have taken the case of Uganda to ICC because criminals cannot investigate themselves. The state could be part of this (Masaka murders), but secondly, it could be aggrieved people expressing their grievances through violence,” said Besigye.
