Heavy security deployment at Masaka Police as MPs Ssegirinya, Ssewanyana are expected to appear to record statements

Opposition Members of Parliament Ssegirinya Muhammad (Kawempe North) and Makindye West’s Hon Allan Ssewanyana are today expected to appear at Masaka Central Police Station to record statements in regard to the Masaka murders.

The two legislators were last week summoned by Director Criminal Investigations in Police, Paul Katto Tumuhimbise and are supposed to appear before Masaka Police Station today on Monday, September 6 at 10am before D/SSP Moses Taremwa to record statements.

As we compiled this article, there is a heavy security deployment at the Masaka Central Police Station.

By presstime, Lawyers respresenting the MPs had already arrived at the station while the MPs were also said to be close.

Asan Kasingye, the Police Political Commissar says it’s too early to start pointing fingers at what could be the cause of the rampant murders in Masaka.

“Police has sent a very good team to Masaka and soon, we will tell the country what the actual problem is.

We need to trace the problem of Masaka from 2009 to 2018 and then to 2021. For the first cases, people were robbed before they were killed then, they changed to just killing,” said Kasingye who has been camped in the region for the past week.

No death has been registered in the last week but before that about 30 people had been hacked to death by panga welding men.
