Police fire bullets, tear gas at Barbie Kyagulanyi and NUP MPs on their way to donate relief items to teenage mothers

Police has fired bullets and tear gas at Barbie Kyagulanyi and Members of Parliament who subscribe to the National Unity Platform (NUP) party who had gone to Nakaseke Hospital to deliver relief items to teenage mothers.

Barbie, who is the wife to presidential hopeful Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine and the group were intercepted by Police’s Field Force Unit Kikamulo Health centre III in Nakaseke, Luwero and confiscated some of the items that included; beds, gloves and mattresses among other items.

In the scuffle, babies, pregnant mothers and two journalists were badly injuries.

On why they intercepted the group, Police says they refused to comply and instead mobilized their supporters who came in big numbers and entered the medical facility, contrary to the Ministry of Health guidelines on #COVID19.

“This necessitated the use of non lethal crowd dispersal methods including tear gas to disperse the crowds,” says Police.
