LUMBUYE ARREST: NUP flies out more lawyers to Turkey

National Unity Platform (NUP) party has dispatched more lawyers to Turkey to establish the full facts surrounding the arrest of Turkey based Ugandan blogger Fred Kajjubi Lumbuye who subscribes to their party.

Lumbuye was reportedly arrested a week ago by security authorities in Turkey, but to date his whereabouts are not known as he has never been brought to court or even deported back to Uganda.

Several speculations have circulated from his camp and on the side of Uganda government. End last week, State Minister for Security Okello Oryem announced that Lumbuye was waiting to be deported to Uganda on Saturday August 7, but until now he is yet to appear anywhere.

Herman Ainebyona, the NUP party Diaspora Team Leader, has disclosed in a statement that Counsel Wameli Anthony and Counsel Muwadda Nkunyinji are enroute to Turkey to follow up on Lumbuye’s case.

“We are yet to establish where he is being held currently. The law firm handling his case in Turkey asked for a fee which Ugandans at home and in the diaspora have been trying to raise these past two days.

Interactions between Turkish Authorities, the legal team and Ugandans in Turkey are ongoing.  We appreciate the leaders who have taken the responsibility to advocate and work towards this objective,” said Ainebyona.

He added; “As we have repeatedly said, whatever facts we eventually establish, we are working tooth and nail to see that he is not deported to Uganda, especially since the regime in Kampala has expressed keen interest in having him in their hands.”
