Why 24-year-old ‘King Joshua’ is now Uganda’s Greatest Athlete of All Time

Joshua Cheptegei has just closed the debate of ‘Who is Uganda’s GREATEST UGANDAN SPORTSMAN OF ALL TIME?’ Cheptegei has deservingly earned himself the honor of G.O.AT after winning Olympics gold in men’s 5,000m final.

The Olympic medal has made him the most successful Ugandan athlete as he has won it all the world stage. He is the first Ugandan to win two medals at Olympics games.

On his name now, Cheptegei is an Olympic Champion, World Champion, Holds four World Records in 10000m, 5000m, 10 km and 15km, Commonwealth Games Champion and World Cross Country Champion.

Such honors make him surpass other great men like John Akii Bua and Stephen Kiprotich.

 Cheptegei was born on September 12 1996 in Kapsewui, Kapchorwa District, Eastern Uganda. In primary school, Cheptegei first played football and tried out the long jump and triple jump, but switched to running when he discovered his talent in distance running.

Cheptegei studied languages and literature in Kampala for two years and is employed by the Uganda National Police. His coach is Addy Ruiter.
