TOKYO OLYMPICS: Cheptegei, Kiplimo back in action today for the men’s 5000m

After making Uganda proud in the 10,000m race, Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo will today be back on the track in a bid to conquer the world again.

The duo will be competing in the men’s 5000m race and they have been pitted in Heat 2 due today on Tuesday at 2:16pm. Cheptegei holds the world record in 5000m and will be aiming at amending his short fall in the 10,000m.

“I’m very grateful for today’s silver medal at the Olympic Games 10,000m. I want to thank everyone for supporting me all the way. I’m still dreaming for the Olympic title! See you soon for the 5000m on Tuesday,” said Cheptegei.

Similarly Kiplimo is also eyeing a final spot to be able to secure another podium finish at the Olympic games. He has not finished below 3rd in his last 7 races.

The duo will be joined by Kiplimo’s young brother Oscar Chelimo though he is in Heat 1 that starts at 1:56pm.

Meanwhile today morning more two Ugandan athletes bowed out of the games with Ronald Musagala failing to complete the men’s 1500m Round 1 due to a muscle problem. He was in heat 3.

Shida Leni gave it all but finished fifth in the women’s 400m Round 1 Heat 3. She missed the top automatic qualifying slots after posting 52.48 seconds.
