Parliament to resume today despite six staff testing positive for COVID-19

Six staff have tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of today resumption of parliament after a two-week suspension Chris Obore, the Director of Communication at Parliament says that 900 people from the Parliamentary community were tested on Friday and Saturday.

Amongst them, six test results came back positive for the coronavirus but none of these was a Member of Parliament

Parliament was suspended two weeks ago after the institution registered about 200 COVID-19 cases. This was after Parliament had three important functions held at Kololo Independence Grounds that included voting of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, Swearing in of MPs and then Swearing in of ministers.

Obore says they have used the two weeks to disinfect the premises and as it resumes all departments will be operating at 10% capacity.

He reveals that the key on the agenda today will be the administration of oath to the Ex-officials in Parliament, amendment of Rules of Procedure of Parliament, and designation of backbench Commissioners.
