Last month, the country experienced a spike in Covid 19 cases forcing the President to re-impose a partial lockdown on June 6. With the country now registering over 1000 cases a day, Boda Boda cyclists, one of the most used means of transportation in Kampala and Wakiso have formed compliance teams to help in the fight against the Covid 19 pandemic.

Rogers Agaba, a boda boda cyclist based in Namugongo says that wearing a mask is now compulsory.

“We are supposed to wear masks at all times, failure to comply can risk me my boda or a fine of Shs50,000,”said Agaba

Agaba explained that once a colleague finds him riding or stationed at the stage without a mask the boda cyclist has the mandate of fining him a fee of Shs50,000, failure to pay the amount can lead to his boda being impounded by the colleague that has found him not adhering to the SOPs.

He also said that they (boda boda cyclists) are prohibited from carrying two passengers.
