Koboko residents crossing to Congo just to drink alcohol, dance


With Uganda under partial lockdown and strict curfew measures put in place, reports coming in from Birijaku border post in Koboko West Division,Koboko municipality indicate that some residents of the area have resorted to crossing to the Democratic Republic of Congo every Wednesday and Friday to dance and take alcohol.


According to New Vision, Richard Muki, the Parish internal security Officer( PISO) for Isoko ward said that they lack manpower as few security Officers are stationed at the border.
The publication also stated that only three people that include a policeman, a field force unit officer and PISO guard the checkpoint.


The revellers between one to three people are ferryed on boda bodas. They then cross to the nearby Barieri Market on foot.


When asked to comment on the issue at hand , the Resident District commissioner, Sazir Mayanja Nsubuga said he is aware of what is happening and vowed to handle to the matter
