BESIGYE: Gov’t can’t lock us down, it lacks the capacity to maintain a lockdown

With the country now registering over 1,000 Covid 19 cases in a day, many people are requesting for a total lockdown. However four time Presidential candidate Dr. Kizza  Besigye has said that government has no plan and can’t afford another lockdown.

“A tougher lockdown is necessary but they can’t lock us down because they have no capacity to maintain a lockdown,” said Dr. Besigye.

Dr. Besigye who was discussing about the Covid 19 situation in the country has advised people to take caution and save themselves.

“It’s time to save one’s self. Every individual should take responsibility, wash hands. Mask up. Don’t mix with many people. Increase your body immunity, use natural ingredients to build your capacity to fight, Do exercises, sleep enough to improve your health and when you have symptoms isolate yourself,” Dr. Besigye advised.

Last week President Museveni closed all schools, a move which Dr. Besigye said was catastrophic.

“Summarily sending Children home was catastrophic; Children are in the category of people who have the infections but no symptoms. They dispersed the infection across the country,” said Dr. Besigye.

The former Forum for Democratic Change President also said that the country has only carried out 1million tests since the pandemic begun before advising people to collectively fight to get their money to do what they can’t do for themselves.

“All these blocks of flats coming up that’s pandemic money. Now, that the confusion of politics and people looking for offices is done. We now need to get together to make sure our money helps in the health care,” said Dr. Besigye.

He also said that the country needs to rapidly increase the healthcare sector by increasing the beds and the medical staff.

When asked whether he can sit down with government and advise it on how to fight the pandemic, Dr. Besigye said he doesn’t consider this government.

“I don’t consider we have a government. We have a mafia group holding the country captive.  People get a leadership they deserve. Ugandans deserve these thieves,” said Dr. Besigye.
