President Yoweri Museveni has announced a new resolution following an assassination attempt on former Army Commander Gen Katumba Wamala on Tuesday last week.

After delivering his address about COVID-19 yesterday on Sunday evening, Museveni took a few more minutes and commented about the rising talks concerning insecurity in Uganda especially when it comes to gun violence.

Museveni admitted that they’re still gaps in the security but vowed to close them. while commenting on the attack on Gen Katumba, Museveni said attackers who rode on two motorbikes encountered a traffic officer as they fled the scene on the Kisota-Kulambiro Road in Kampala, but were able to escape because the officer was not armed.

“These fellows who attacked Gen Katumba met a traffic policeman but the officer was not armed that’s how they ran away. These people took advantage of our laxity. Now they have alerted us. The traffic police will be armed or paired with armed people,” Museveni said.

On why Katumba did not have an escort patrol, Museveni said: “If the General and the population is not alert then they can be attacked. In the case of Gen Katumba he also made some mistakes because apparently, he was moving without a follow car. He was moving with one escort and a driver. I didn’t know that. Because a four-star general should be having a follow car.”
