Anglican Church seeks urgent help, requests one million Ugandans to each contribute Shs60k

Church of Uganda risks losing its multi-billion Church House building on Kampala Road over Shs48 billion unpaid debt.

According to our sources, Equity Bank extended Shs41b loan ($10m and another Shs5b) towards the construction of the 16-storeyed building and it’s still demanding about Shs40b. The remaining Shs8b is owed to other entities/individuals.

Speaking during a press conference he held at his Namirembe based residence in Kampala ahead of Uganda Marty’s celebration this week on Thursday, Stephen Kaziimba, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda said the loan must be paid before the end of July. And in his calculations, he appealed to Christians and well-wishers to contribute at least Shs60,000 to help in covering the debt.

“We are asking 1,000,000 Ugandans to contribute at least Shs60,000 by the end of July as a love gift to the Lord in thanksgiving for the 60 years of self-governance,” said Kazimba.

The Archbishop said they will be collecting the funds under the theme; “Yes, We Can!” Yes, we can raise 60,000/- from one million people.”
