Gen Katumba is now out of danger – UPDF Spokesperson Byekwaso

Unknown assailants on Tuesday sprayed bullets at a car carrying works and transport minister, Gen Edward Katumba Wamala in an attempted assassination, wounding him and killing his daughter Brenda Wamala and driver Haruna Kayondo.

The general was rushed to hospital and the UPDF spokesperson Brig. Gen. Flavia Byekwaso has confirmed that the former Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Katumba is out of danger.

On what happened at the scene of crime, Byekwaso said that the different investigation departments have gathered all the necessary information at the scene pending screening by experts.

AIGP Godfrey Golooba said those two lives were lost, Katumba’s bodyguard did a commendable job.

“If it wasn’t for his bodyguard, this would have probably been a different story. I really want to thank him for saving his life,” said Golooba.

Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah and his deputy Anita Among have visited Gen Katumba at Medipal international hospital.  Katumba is a UPDF representative in the 11th Parliament.
