Greenhill Academy registers Covid cases, sends students home

With an increase in Covid cases across the country, in a move to curb the virus Greenhill Academy Secondary School has sent back its students home“There is a new variant of Covid 19 that is sweeping the entire country. We have registered a few confirmed cases and as a result, we are sending students home for two weeks to curb the contagious nature of the variant and as well disinfect the school environment,” stated the school document.

According to the circular, the Students were released today May 30th and will be expected back on Sunday june 13th (Boarding between 10.00am and 4.00pm) while the day students will be expected at 7.00am on June 14th, 2021.

The school will conduct online studies for S1 and S2 beginning Friday June. Last week the ministry of health confirmed that 803 COVID-19 cases were confirmed in 29 schools around the country in the past week.

The affected schools include; 10 Nursing Schools, 11 Secondary schools, 7 Primary schools, 1 PTC and 1 tertiary institution.

According to the Director General Health Services at the ministry, Henry Mwebesa even some Universities like Kyambogo have also reported cases and are under investigations.

Mwebesa said that the main drivers of transmission in schools are overcrowding, non-adherence to SOPs and inadequate supervision of the learners. He urged proprietors of private schools and administrators of government aided schools to be more vigilant.
