The National Unity Platform (NUP) party top leadership will reportedly meet today to finalize on individuals it will be appointing to lead the opposition in parliament.
NUP emerged the most dominant opposition party in the 2021 general elections after winning 61 parliamentary seats against Forum for Democratic Change’s (FDC) 36 seats. FDC has been providing opposition leadership in parliament but this time the powers shifted to NUP.
NUP will have to appoint 10 members in different positions and these include; Leader of Opposition, Opposition Chief Whip, and leadership of the four accountability committees; the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Committee on Commissions Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE), Local Government Accounts Committee (LGAC), and Committee on Government Assurances.
According to our sources in the camp, Leader of Opposition and Opposition Chief whip will be chosen amongst Mathias Mpuuga, Patrick Nsamba Oshabe, Medard Lubega Sseggona and John Baptist Nambeshe.
