MP Tayebwa withdraws from Deputy Speaker race

With a few minutes to the election of the speaker and the deputy for the 11th Parliament, Hon. Thomas Tayebwa has withdrawn from the race.

Following the NRM CEC’s decision to front Hon. Anita Among for Deputy Speaker, Hon. Tayebwa had vowed to run as an independent.

However the Ruhinga MP has today said that he has unconditionally withdrawn from the race.

“My President is the father of the Nation. I have to listen to him” said Hon. Tayebwa

Among polled 168 votes against Ruhinda North County MP Thomas Tayebwa’s 149 votes while Gomba West Member of Parliament (MP) Robinah Rwakoojo poled 10 votes.

On Sunday NRM’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) dropped other candidates who included Theodore Ssekikubo, State Minister for health in charge of General Duties Robinah Nabbanja, Jacob Oboth Oboth from the race for Deputy Speaker of the 11th Parliament.
