Health ministry warns of rising cases of COVID-19

Health minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng has expressed concern over a rise in COVID-19 cases especially in Kampala.

The health ministry has only this week reported over 500 new COVID-19 cases and about 15 COVID deaths. It reveals that of late they are receiving overwhelming reports of sick people in urban areas.

Speaking after receiving her 2nd dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, Aceng urged the public to more extra vigilant because the virus is too much around and spreading.

“I want to tell Ugandans that the situation is not good. The number of cases is increasing daily. I want to appeal Ugandans to take COVID-19 very seriously,” said Aceng.

Today the ministry has confirmed 147 new cases tested from 2,965 samples. The cumulative confirmed cases are 43,370. The breakdown of the new cases are; 147 contacts and Alerts:  Kampala (89) Wakiso (21) Nabitaluk (11) Arua (3) Gulu (3) Lamwo (3) Kalungu (2) Moroto (2) Masaka (4) Katakwi (2) Soroti (1) Sironko (1) Yumbe(1) Kazo (1) Napak (1) Ntungamo (1) Mbale (1)

Total deaths stand at 350 while active cases on admission are 140. Total number of people who have been vaccinated against COVID-19: 488,986.

Ministry also called upon Ugandans to go for vaccination.
