Ssegirinya returns ahead of swearing in

Today marks the final day of the four days of swearing in of the 11th parliament and good news coming in this morning indicates that Kawempe North MP elect Ssegirinya Muhammad alias Mr Updates returned to Uganda yesterday evening.

Ssegirinya is set to take oath despite still being not yet fully stable as he is still undergoing treatment. He has been in Kenya’s capital city, Nairobi, for treatment for almost a month after he was released from Kitalya Prison. His page reported that the doctors at Nairobi Hospital diagnosed that he had been poisoned.

The MP elect is said to have requested the clerk of parliament to allow him take oath via zoom but his coming back indicates that his request was turned down.

Over 100 MPs are set to take oath today. By the end of the day’s ceremonies yesterday, 133 MPs took oath bringing the total to 398.
