Muhoozi says UPDF is not a ‘killing machine’, “We instead put our lives on line to be killed on behalf of our country”

Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) Gen. David Muhoozi has said that Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) has lived up to that expectation of securing Uganda.

Speaking during NBS TV’s Spotlight show, Muhoozi admitted that some officers act unprofessionally but as the army, they use their internal systems to make them conform to institutional norms.

“It is a foundational requirement that we be nonpartisan. I think, by and large, we have lived up to that expectation. Individuals may make mistakes and when they do, they should be judged as individuals and not the whole force,” said Muhoozi.

He said they have built the army on patriotism and nationalism and that’s why they always put their bodies on the line to serve the interests of Uganda.

“We are not killing machines. We put our lives on line to be killed on behalf of our country. If we are to be killed, we should be killed for a justice cause,” Muhoozi said.

According to Muhoozi, they are gradually improving the payment of soldiers starting with the scientists like pilots.

“No system exists without a fine human resource. We have been recruiting and training people and deploying them accordingly to execute our mandate. Budget allowing, we shall go to other levels,” he said.
