Weeks ago, three senior Uganda Cranes senior players; skipper and goalkeeper Denis Onyango (goalkeeper), Vice-captain Hassan Wasswa and Michael Azira announced their retirement from national team football something that created mixed speculations amongst football fans.

Parliament is set to honour Onyango for his exceptional service on the national team. Onyango has been a dominant figure of the Cranes for the past 15 years and he led the team to two consecutive AFCON finals 2017 and 2019.

“I agree entirely with the proposal for a motion of recognition for Dennis Onyango, I shall instruct the parliament sports team to act. I am a great fan of Dennis Onyango and the Uganda Cranes,” said the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga.

The state minister for sports, Hamson Denis Obua added his voice saying Onyango deserves to be honoured.

“Let me put it on record; Onyango has been the most disciplined. Denis Onyango will be honoured soon by the First Lady and minister for education and sports. He has had an illustrious career. I’m happy to hear that even Parliament will honour him,” Obua said.
