NUP forms committee to determine who to back for Speakership

Yesterday the National Unity Platform (NUP) concluded a two day retreat in Jinja for its leaders (NEC, MPs, District Chairpersons and Mayors). The party is said to have made several resolutions that included naming special committees to guide the party on a range of issues that will inform their position on the speakership and the shadow government.

NUP Spokesperson who also doubles as the Nakawa East MP-elect, Joel Ssenyonyi admitted that the matters could not be agreed on in the party retreat in Jinja as earlier planned as he revealed that the respective committees will have to report back in two weeks.

NUP party will be the main opposition party in the 11th parliament having come second in the presidential elections and also has the most MPs from the opposition.

With the ruling NRM still puzzled on who back between Rebecca Kadaga and Jacob Oulanya, NUP is yet to give its official stand about the position. For FDC, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda already expressed interest to stand for parliament’s top position.

Meanwhile, NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine together with other party leaders will have a countrywide tour to connect with several leaders, thank Ugandans for their support, open party offices, and engage in other party activities across the country.
