MP accused of bribing fellow legislators with alcohol to be voted as Deputy Speaker

Mukono Municipality legislator Betty Nambooze has condemned a fellow legislator for offering bribes ahead of 11th parliament elections of Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

Keeping tight-lipped about the exact Member of Parliament, Nambooze said that the member is bringing the House into “disrepute” by going around offering bribes.

“Yesterday I was reading news and I was very sad, that our collegues who are about to join us, went to Kyankwanzi while in the bus feasting and drinking all sorts of beers and wines sponsored by somebody who want to come back as a deputy Speaker,” Nambooze told parliament.

So far five MPs have officially expressed their interest to run for office of Deputy Speaker and they are all from the ruling NRM party. These include; Lwemiyaga County MP Theodore Ssekikubo, Anita Among (Bukedea woman), Jacob Oboth Oboth (West Budama county), Thomas Tayebwa (Ruhinda North), and David Bahati (Ndorwa West).
