On Tuesday April 13, as the nation and the baganda celebrated Kabaka Ronald Mwenda Mutebi’s 66th birthday, a video of the Kabaka in a ‘worrying’ state made rounds on social media causing anxiety among the kabaka’s subjects.

However, today in a live television broadcast, the Katikirro Charles Peter Mayiga has dismissed the ongoing speculation about the Kabaka’s health.

“On Tuesday April 13, we celebrated Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II’s 66th birthday and thanked God for the long life. Those who followed the events on TV and social media noticed that the Kabaka’s disposition was different from that that his subjects are used to. We all face ailments from time to time.  In the Kabaka’s case, the challenges are related to allergies that cause him breathing difficulties, especially when he wears a mask or face shield,” stated the Katikkiro.

Katikiro also said that the Kabaka is receiving the best health care and urged everyone to disregard the rumours on social media that the Kabaka had been poisoned because they are wrong, baseless and unfounded.

The Kabaka and the Nnabagereka (queen) Sylvia Nagginda today received their first dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 at the Lubiri (palace) in Kireka, Kampala.
