Ssegirinya intends to move bill seeking to reduce MP salaries to not more than Shs5m

Kawempe North Member of Parliament – elect, Muhammad Ssegirinya commonly known as Mr Updates has said that his first task when the 11th parliament is sworn in will be to move a private members’ bill seeking to reduce MP salaries.

Ssegirinya says that MPs get hefty salaries and allowances yet other civil servants like teachers and health workers are getting peanuts. He says he will propose that MPs get a salary of not more than Shs5 million.

An MP gets a basic salary of Shs11 million which comes to 6 million Shillings after all taxes, but get an average of Shs10-30 million in monthly allowances.

On how he plans to spend his over Shs300m for the car, Segirinnya says that he intends to distribute the money to women who engage in petty businesses and of National Unity Platform (NUP) party supporters who died as they traversed the country looking for votes.

Mr Updates vows to keep a low profile by staying in the same house he has been residing in and maintain the car he has been driving.   He also promises to continue updating his followers with live updates from the chambers.
