Uganda Hippos have once again lightened up their debut journey in the going Africa U20 Cup of Nations in Mauritania as they will now play in the quarterfinals after beating hosts Mauritania in the final Group A game at Stade Olympique to progress to the knockout face.

Morley Byekwaso’s boys were trailing 1-0 at halftime despite creating a lot of chances in the first half. However, in return for the second interval after the long break, the group put up a spirited fight scoring twice to secure a 2-1 win thanks to Steven Sserwanda’s 57th goal and Derrick Kakooza’s well taken penalty in the final minutes of the second half.

The win sends Uganda to the quarterfinals as the second placed team in group A with 6 points, three behind leaders Cameroon.
