The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has asked the Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Ruhakana Rugunda to restrict both Ministry of Works and Transport and Traffic Police not to arrest, fine or impound vehicles of motorists driving without permits until the transition from Face Technologies to Government is successful.

This follows a concern raised by Kawempe North MP Latif Ssebaaggala who said that there is a delay in the issuance of driving permits by the concerned agency.

Latif said that many drivers whose permits have expired continue suffer at the hands of traffic officers who don’t even recognize temporary permits issued.

Last year in October, government, agreed to grant Face Technologies a transitional period within which it had to handover production of computerised driving permits to the Ministry of Works and Transport.

Government has already acquired new premises near Uganda Railways Corporation in which the permits will be printed. They are expected to work in partnership with Veridos, a Germany company that produces integrated identity solutions.
