Ministers on social media despite ban

On January 11, a few days to the January 14 General Elections the country experienced a social media shutdown that is still ongoing.

The ban has forced many Ugandans to resort to using the Virtual Private Network (VPN) to access social media platforms that include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram,Snapchat.

Some Cabinet Ministers have joined the VPN bandwagon despite threats from the government to arrest all citizens using VPN.

From the Prime Minister Hon. Ruhakana Rugunda to the Minister for Presidency Hon. Esther Mbayo to yellow girl Hon. Evelyn Anite and not forgetting Hon.Judith Nabakoba the Ministers are still using social media to rely information.


Matooke Republic has compiled a list of some Ministers still using social media despite the government ban.


By the time of publication, the Minister of Information, Communication, Technology and National Guidance Hon. Judith Nabakooba had last tweeted three days ago while the Prime Minister Hon. Ruhakana Rugunda retweeted a tweet from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on January 20,2021.

The Minister of Presidency Hon. Esther Mbayo last tweeted on January 22 while the state Minister for Primary Care Dr. Joyce Moriku retweeted a tweet from the Ministry of Health 17 hours ago.

The Minister of Works and Transport, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala last tweeted 11 hours ago while the State Minister for Finance last tweeted on January 27,2021.


The Minister of State for ICT and National Guidance Hon. Peter Ogwang last tweeted three days ago.
