Joel Ssenyonyi: Even if all NUP leaders are behind bars on January 14, millions of Ugandans are ready to vote for them

The National Unity Platform (NUP) spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi has said that the ruling government is using security forces and courts of law to isolate their presidential flag bearer Hon. Kyagulanyi Robert Sentamu by arresting everyone around him.

Ssenyonyi revealed that over 200 people on their campaign team and supporters are in prisons across the country but the strategy will not work for the regime as Ugandans are very ready to vote them out.

“Nothing can stop an idea whose time has come. Even if all NUP leaders are behind bars on January 14, there are millions of Ugandans out there who want change,” says Ssenyonyi.

He said that whoever is putting together the script of the State is not very smart.

“If I have an offense, take me court. They are replaying the same very unsmart way of doing things,” he says.

On security forces supressing the opposition, Ssenyonyi says that their are people in uniform who think they are an extension of the NRM government hence they use their offices to defend the regime. However, he asserts that many officers are in support of the cause.

“It is interesting to see the voting patterns in all the barracks. They always vote for the opposition. I interact with them, and they say not all of them are bad,” he says.
