Uganda’s Ambassador Resident in Khartoum, Sudan James William Kinobe has said that the opposition has put in a lot of effort in decampaigning President Yoweri Museveni and his National Resistance Movement (NRM) government than building to be the alternative government that can equitably challenge the status quo.
Kinobe says that he has been following the 2021 presidential campaigns but all candidates are spreading hate speech on Museveni’s personality instead of promoting their manifesto so that Ugandans can vote for them.
He believes that opposition’s sentiments towards Museveni are instead promoting and portraying him as the best candidate for the country’s top office.
“Even at his worst, President Museveni is still the best alternative to lead Uganda,” says Ambassador Kinobe.
On the recent comments by President Museveni not to hand over power until he identifies someone serious, Kinobe says it’s a political tactic to scare his opponents.
“President Museveni will hand over power if he doesn’t win election. His statement on Gen Tumukunde and Gen Muntu that he can’t hand over power to them is his personal opinion because he has worked with them on a personal level,” he says.
