The Electoral Commission (EC) has re-summoned presidential candidates Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine sponsored by the National Unity Platform (NUP) and Amuriat Patrick Oboi sponsored by the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party for a meeting over continued ignoring and/or neglect to observe the Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) by holding mass rallies and processions, contrary to established guidelines.
Bobi Wine and Amuriat were supposed to hold a meeting with EC boss Justice Simon Byabakama yesterday on Monday, December 14 but only Bobi Wine set representatives.
However, in another letter issued by Byabakama following the flop of yesterday’s meeting, he says the physical attendance of both candidates is crucial to finding solution to their non-compliance to the set campaign guidelines.
The EC has once again summoned Bobi Wine and Patrick Amuriat for alleged continued breach of the electoral guidelines and standard operating procedures to control the spread of Coronavirus. Bobi Wine is expected to appear before the commission today Tuesday at 9am while Amuriat is slated to appear tomorrow on Wednesday.
In a letter dated December 10, 2020, the EC boss Justice Simon Byabakama accuses the duo of holding processions and mass rallies contrary to the agreed EC COVID-19 SOPs. He said their actions are putting at risk lives of million Ugandans who attend their events.
