The National Unity Platform (NUP) spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi has revealed that their presidential candidate Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine will not make it to the Electoral Commission (EC) today.
Last week the EC Chairman Justice Simon Byabakama summoned Kyagulanyi and Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Patrick Amuriat for alleged continued breach of the electoral guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures to control the spread of Coronavirus.
Bobi Wine is expected to be at EC headquarters today on Monday at 10am while Amuriat at 11am. However, Ssenyonyi says Bobi Wine is in Karamoja and coming back to Kampala will eat a lot of time, yet they have lost time.
“We will represent him,” says Ssenyonyi.
Ssenyonyi wonders why EC has not invited candidate Yoweri Museveni yet all candidates have fallen short as far as COVID-19 guidelines are concerned.
“Police should do their part. I would like to see them do what they are doing for candidate Tibuhaburwa. It doesn’t make logical sense to shoot people dead to prevent them from dying from COVID19,” says Ssenyonyi.
Paul Bukenya, the EC spokesperson says as the commission, they are concerned about the safety of the candidates and the people hence the reason they decided to call candidates for a meeting.
He says each summoned candidate must appear in person.
“We have made it clear that we want the candidates (Kyagulanyi and Amuriat) to appear in person. We expect compliance,” says Bukenya.
