Gov’t spokesperson Ofwono Opondo confirms Col. Shaban Bantariza died of COVID-19

Government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo has revealed that his deputy Col Shaban Bantariza died of the deadly COVID-19.  

Opondo however explained that Bantariza has been struggling with low blood pressure but on Sunday evening his condition worsened and was rushed to Mulago Hospital where he breathed his last today morning.

To date, Uganda has 11557 cumulative confirmed cases of COVID-19, 7351 recoveries and 101 deaths.

Bantariza has died at the age of 57 having been born in 1963 in Mitooma District. At the time of his death, Bantaliza has been serving as the deputy director at Uganda Media Centre a position he was appointed to in June 2013.

Currently his body has been taken to Mbuya army barracks. Ofwono Opondo said details of his burial arrangements will soon be released.
