The ruling NRM chairperson, President Yoweri Museveni has issued an apology to his supporters who had stood by the road side along Bwaise, Kawanda, and Namalere on Saturday yearning for him to stop and address them.
Museveni said he saw the NRM supporters crowd along the streets but he could not stop due to the current Standard Operating Procedures to fight the deadly coronavirus.
“I witnessed a huge crowd of people who had gathered on both sides of the road right from Kawanda, Kawempe-Kagoma up-to Bwaise, who wanted me to stop. Even if I stopped, I could not address the people because of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Museveni said.
He added, “I have to genuinely apologise because I did not stop or even come out of the vehicle. I didn’t ignore you.”
Museveni was on his way from commissioning the agro-processing equipment for post-harvest and value addition in Namalere.
Museveni urged the public to desist from standing by the roadside without observing the ministry of health guidelines against the COVID-19 pandemic regulations.
“Now, the COVID-19 pandemic has killed over 90 people in Uganda. It is still dangerous. Observe strict measures for control by avoiding the further spread of the pandemic,” he said.
To date, Uganda has a total of 9, 801 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 93 deaths.
