The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development has announced that 21 of their staff tested positive for COVID-19 following a mandatory testing exercise they carried out between August 19 and 21.
“Interim results have indicated that at least 21 positive cases so far have been identified. In collaboration with the Ministry of Health, we have contacted all staff and placed them under medical care. Their immediate close contacts will be subjected to mandatory isolation and quarantine,” Keith Muhakanizi, the permanent secretary said in a statement.
Muhakanzi said that the ministry will now undertake its meetings using online platforms to avoid gatherings at their offices.
The ministry joins a growing list of mega institutions to register COVID cases. UNRA, Toyota Uganda, Royal Pharma, NRM Secretariat, Vision Group, Next Media, Nation Media and BBS among others have all reported positive cases.
Yesterday on Monday, the Ministry of Health confirmed 99 new cases of COVID-19 taking the total cases to 2,362. Two more deaths were also reported taking the total deaths to 22.
