Government recently proposed new regulations to streamline the entertainment industry; a move which the artists and stakeholders in the Industry protested. The proposed regulatory rules required singers, poets, and comedians to submit their works and scripts for review and approval by government agencies before they could be released to the public.
Gospel artist Wisdom Kaye, the Vice President for the Federation of Gospel Performing Artists and coordinator of the Artists Trade Union and a member of the National Culture Forum – NCF has been at the forefront of fighting the proposed regulations.
However, Kaye has been arrested by unknown security agency and the cause of his arrest is not known.
Renowned comedian and President of the Uganda Comedians Association, Bugingo Hannington broke the news on his social media platforms
“Our attention has been drawn to the alleged arrest of Mr Kaye Wisdom by unknown security agencies yesterday in Luwero. Mr Kaye is a Gospel Artist, Vice President for the Federation of Gospel Performing Artist, coordinator of the Artists Trade Union and a member of the National Culture Forum – NCF. Information about the cause of his arrest is still scanty but we are doing our best to talk to the Police,” Bugingo posted.
