In his last address about the country’s progress in the fight against COVID-19 two weeks ago, President Yoweri Museveni pledged Shs2 billion private school teachers who are enduring tough times in this COVID-19 situation.
Since the closure of schools in March, private teachers have gone several months without getting any salary. The private school owners through their associations, the Federation of Non-State Education Institutions (FENEI) cried out to government to support their SACCOs so that they can be able to survive in these challenging times.
Patrick Kaboyo, the FENEI national secretary has revealed that following a meeting with the Minister of Education and Sports held last week on Friday, Museveni raised his presidential pledge from Shs2 billion to Shs22 billion.
Kaboyo also revealed that a further Shs5 billion has already been given out to the teachers’ Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations SACCOs as part of the Shs25 billion shillings promised to them in 2011.
