President Yoweri Museveni has directed Ministry of Health to have all people contesting for political office tested for COVID-19.
According to the ruling party Secretary General Kasule Lumumba, the President found it wise to carry out mass testing for individuals vying for political offices since they are currently interacting with thousands of the population.
“Every political party and all people that have come out to contest for office under the party; everybody that will be going out to interact with voters in this campaign period, will have to get tested,” Lumumba said.
The directive comes after two of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) secretariat staff tested positive for the deadly coronavirus. Additionally 17 members of the NRM staff are currently under quarantine since they’re suspected to have come in contact with confirmed cases.
Currently Uganda has 1,154 cumulative confirmed cases of COVID-19 after seven new cases were confirmed yesterday. The cumulative total recoveries stand at 1,028 with only three deaths.
