Former Makerere University vice-chancellor Prof. Venasius Baryamureeba has announced that he will be contesting for Ibanda Municipality parliamentary in the forthcoming election.
Baryamureeba declared his intentions to stand through his known social media platforms.
“So, after extensive consultations I have decided to contest the Ibanda Municipality MP seat in 2021 Parliamentary Elections. I encourage other experts and business men and woman to offer themselves in their Parliamentary Constituencies so that we can change the composition of parliament and influence laws to ensure an enabled environment for the private sector, education and other key sectors,”Prof Baryamureeba said in a statement.
To put butter to his candidature, the former presidential aspirant said
he will “donate 100% of his salary and benefits for the five years (including car money for MPs) to the Ibanda Municipality to educate teachers and nurses and support organised groups. He will contest for the seat on NRM ticket.
“If you don’t need a salary you can donate it to the constituency but still use the MP position and your expertise to serve your constituency and the country.
For example, President Trump is not drawing a salary yet he is providing a service. We can emulate him. He became President to provide a service to his country. President Museveni says the same in Uganda,” he said.
Baryamureeba also said that during his tenure, he will focus on laws that affect the business community and education.
