As the question whether Ugandan schools are bound to resume this year or next year still lingers in the minds of the students and their parents, Kenya’s Minister for Education has declared the 2020 academic year lost due to the Covid-19 pandemic. All primary and secondary schools in the neighbouring country will now reopen in January 2021.
While addressing the media, Education Cabinet secretary Prof. George Magoha said the decision was arrived at following consultations with all the stakeholders and putting into consideration the COVID 10 mitigation measures, a move that has left many Ugandans wondering if the country is going to follow suit.
CS Magoha said Standard Eight and Form Four students who were to sit their final examinations this year will do so in 2021.
Uganda’s Minister of Education and Sports Hon Janet Kataha Museveni while speaking to the nation on Friday said it was risky to re-open schools when Covid-19 is still upon us. However, she has not pronounced herself yet on Uganda cancelling this academic year.
