With the 2020-21 Uganda Premier League (UPL) season anticipated to kick off in October according to FUFA, UPL clubs are active in the transfer market trying to beef up their squads.
As usual, KCCA Football Club are always among the most active in the transfer window. Yesterday, the Lugogo-based club officially unveiled 26-year-old Italian midfielder Stefano Mazengo during their TV show on Sanyuka.
Mazengo penned a three-year contract with the 13-time UPL Champions. The defensive midfielder was born to Italian parents in Kenya and has lived both in Uganda and Tanzania. He started his career under the Kampala Kids League program before heading to Netherlands, Spain, and the United Kingdom for further studies.
Since returning to Uganda, Mazengo is reported to have been training with KCCA and his three-year contract indicates that he impressed the coaches at the club.
He joins the earlier new signings such as Charles Lwanga (striker) and midfielder Ashraf Mugume.
KCCA FC Head Coach Mike Mutebi last month revealed that over seven players will be let go and these included; Goalkeeper Jamal Maliyamungu, Simon Sserunkuma, Muzamir Mutyaba, Mike Mutyaba, Nicholas Kasozi, Jackson Nunda, Saddam Juma, and Erisa Sekisambu.
Mutebi said such decisions will create space for new talents to launch their careers.
