Minister for Health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng has cautioned the complacency being portrayed by the majority of Ugandans in the fight against COVID-19. Speaking during the launch of the distribution of 750,000 masks to communities in the border districts of; Adjumani, Amuru, Kyotera and Rakai, Aceng said most Ugandans who have been allowed to return to work are no longer following the Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs).
Aceng said the first lockdown helped them to prepare well for the fight against the virus but the current neglect of preventive measures by the population may result in mass infections.
To overcome the mass infection, Aceng said government will need to direct another lockdown since the country will have moved to stage 4 in the fight against the deadly virus.
Early this week, President Museveni also complained during his Heroes’ Day speech about Ugandans ditching coronavirus preventive measures.
Today, the Health Ministry has confirmed 14 new COVID-19 cases. The total confirmed cases are now 679 and the total COVID-19 recoveries have risen to 120.
