Maverick Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) officer, Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Samuel Wasswa Kasirye Ggwanga was confirmed dead by his family members and friends on Tuesday morning.
Kasirye was first admitted at Mbuya military hospital before he was transferred to Nakasero hospital where he breathed his last.
On Tuesday, the UPDF confirmed that there will not be any vigil for the bush-war general due to the current COVID-19 situation. His body was therefore taken to Bombo Military Hospital for further management.
The late Ggwanga’s burial is slated to take place tomorrow at his ‘desired’ burial place in Nkene, Mityana district. Fresh news reaching us according to Bukedde indicates that Ggwanga’s desired burial land is in contest as the family of the lat Andrew Kaweesi has come out to claim ownership of the land.
According to Kaweesi’s family, Ggwanga first acquired the land as a caretaker through their mother but when their mother died in the early ’90s, the maverick officer refused to vacate the land as he continuously threatened them with his gun and dogs whenever they reached out to him.
The family revealed that their father (Kaweesi) bought the land from Kaggwa Ssendawula in 1972.
