Major General Kasirye Ggwanga has passed on from Nakasero Hospital. This sad news has been confirmed by his son Lomelo Ggwanga. Kasirye Ggwanga was admitted at Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Senior Officers Diagnostic Centre in Mbuya to receive specialized treatment from army doctors.
Over a week ago, the general was transferred to Nakasero hospital with high fever and difficulty in breathing and was immediately put on oxygen.
Ggwanga was born in 1952 and he has died at the age of 68. He is one of NRA bush war generals and he has coincidentally died on this Heroes’ Day.
Ggangwa joined the Uganda Army in 1972. In 1985, he left Uganda Freedom Army (UFA) and joined President Museveni’s National Resistance Army (NRA), which captured power in January 1986. During the drive to capture Kampala, Kasirye Ggwanga commanded a 120mm artillery unit.
