Yesterday, the Ministry of Health confirmed 28 new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases from 2,004 tests. All the 28 confirmed cases are Ugandans of which 21 are truck drivers who arrived from South Sudan via Elegu border point and seven are contacts to previously confirmed truck drivers.

The Ministry says that the contacts were under quarantine at the time of testing. This takes the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 281, with 69 recoveries and no deaths recorded yet.

The Ministry says that 7 positive foreign truck drivers (4 Tanzanians, 1 Eritrean, 1 Congolese and 1 Burundian) were handed over to their country of origin and that samples from the community and contacts were 548. Ugandan truck drivers who test positive are immediately evacuated to hospitals.
