This morning, political activist and former Makerere University Research don Dr Stella Nyanzi has been arrested by Police together with events promoter Andrew Mukasa alias Bajjo, along with other people near Buganda Road Court in Kampala.
These have been arrested for holding a protest over slow distribution of government relief food to vulnerable groups of people affected by the COVID-19 lockdown, something Dr Nyanzi described as a ‘hunger pandemic’ in the country.
In a Facebook post, Nyanzi said they were on their way to Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda’s office, and expected to have a lunch date with him since they don’t have anything eat having not yet received government relief food.
This comes at a time when the general public has repeatedly complained of not getting a single kilo of government relief food, with distributors doing the exercise at a slow pace, and skipping some places as they go about their distribution.
