As the world unites to combat the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, Uganda is playing its role on the frontline in this battle. Several actions have been taken by the authorities which include social distancing through a Stay Home, Stay Safe campaign. The Creative Arts Industry in Uganda has without doubt been severely affected by this outbreak.
Swangz Avenue and House of Djs have announced the Uganda, Strong and United special event in support of the fight against COVID-19.
The special event will be broadcast live on Sunday, May 3, from 12 pm to 7 pm EAT, and broadcast partners will be announced in due course.
The virtual broadcast will show unity and spread a message of hope through various representatives within the Creative Arts Industry that are affected by COVID-19, as well as celebrating and supporting the brave frontline health care workers and administrators around the country who are doing incredible, life-saving work.
As well as driving combined action to support the COVID -19 Task Force, the broadcast will highlight testimonials from the members of the Creative Arts Industry, as well as messages of gratitude and appreciation.
Uganda Strong and United will also be a multi-hour digital broadcast streaming online on multiple global platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube, which will climax with a concert that will air from 5 p.m. EAT under the hashtag #UGSTRONG.
“COVID-19 has been a game changer, an equalizer so to speak. It almost feels like our lives, livelihood and businesses have been hard-reset. Life has changed a lot and in a very short period. It is time to sit and reflect about how to survive and thrive in the new normal conditions. Life under lockdown has been a challenge, but life after lockdown will be even more challenging. It is time to think and act with strategy,” James Byaruhanga, Director House of DJs said.
“In these extremely challenging times, we would like to share our heartfelt support and solidarity with all Ugandans with a reminder of how resilient we are as a nation. This is tough but will definitely pass and we should together start plotting recovery and living post-Covid-19. We are strong United,” said Benon Mugumbya, Director Swangz Avenue.
